DIY Brutalist Chair – FERRO

Meet our DIY Brutalist Chair. Our founder, John P., spent countless hours refining every angle until it was just right. This sleek, modern masterpiece is built from 3″ x 14ga steel tubing and 3/16″ plate steel for the seat and back, creating a surprisingly comfortable seat that feels nothing like cold metal. By carefully adjusting slope angles for the arm rests, seat, and back—sometimes by as little as half a degree—John struck a perfect balance of form and function.

Although it’s composed of only eight parts, this chair is truly heavy-duty and engineered to withstand practically anything. Welding the tubing seams and grinding them smooth is essential to achieve its seamless appearance, making this an intermediate to advanced welding project. Once assembled, you can paint or powder coat the chair to match your style, and even add cushions—though you might miss out on impressing everyone with how comfy a bare steel chair can really be!

FERRO is available in three widths:
